Adam LaRoche and Arizona Diamondbacks agree to one-year deal

By Allan

Update 15:52: Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic says that once the LaRoche deal becomes official, the Diamondbacks will need to make a roster move. Piecoro’s source says they may release Eric Byrnes. Byrnes has one-year left on his three-year contract. He’s owed $11 million.

08:42am: The Arizona Diamondbacks and free agent first baseman Adam LaRoche have agreed to a one-year deal worth between $4-5 million. The signing was first reported by Dejan Kavocevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

LaRoche has drawn interest from the San Francisco Giants and the Baltimore Orioles this off season. He supposedly turned down a two-year $17 million offer from the Giants earlier this Winter.

LaRoche, 30,  hit 25 home runs, drove in 83RBIs and hit .277 with the Pirates, Braves and Red Sox in 2009. He had a one year contract last season for $7.05 million.
