2010 Free Agent Rumors: According to Alden Gonzalez

By Allan

Alden Gonzalez put together a summary of available free agents and team needs and what their next move may be.  Here’s a quick summary of what was reported:

Johnny Damon:  The Yankees have a need for a left fielder and Damon is looking for a job.  General manager Brian Cashman doesn’t want to spend more than one-year for $6 million.  Damon’s agent Scott Boras wants two-year, $20 million.

Adam LaRoche:  The Giants reported offered LaRoche a two-year, $17 million contract, but was turned down.  The Giants will need to increase their offer to LaRoche or move on.  The team needs a left-handed batter in a righty-loaded lineup.

Vladimir Guerrero: The Rangers are “definitely interested, and they are definitely talking”.  Guerrero will be limited to mostly designated hitter duties rather than outfield work.  Other possible designated hitters include Jermaine Dye, Jim Thome, Xavier Nady and Gary Sheffield.

San Diego Padres:  The Padres need a veteran catcher, a backup infielder and a right-handed-hitting center fielder.  The team has utility man Jerry Hairston Jr., outfielders Randy Winn and Reed Johnson, and catcher Mike Redmond and Ramon Castro on their radar.
